Yawgoog Days 2014

Reserve August 2nd on your calendar and join us for a full day of activities. For the first time alumni will swim in Yawgoog Pond, paddle a canoe, enjoy a rowboat, kayak, sail, try out the new paddleboards, learn low cope skills, make a basket, braid a lanyard, and do all the fun things we did as scouts. Breakfast, lunch, and the Chief Yawgoog BBQ will be provided. Don’t miss this one of a kind reunion!!!

It will be a completely different gathering than what we have been used to.  Begin the day at 8 AM with check in and breakfast.   At 9 AM head out to the camps and visit the program areas and for the first time actually see the Scouts in action working on advancement requirements and new skills. At Camp Three Point alumni will be able to participate in an open swim and take a canoe or rowboat out on Yawgoog Pond.  At Ashaway Aquatics Center try out the new paddleboards, kayak or sail.   Visit the Campcraft Center and renew your knot tying and lashing skills. At the Craft Stockade make a basket or braid a lanyard.  Check out what’s new at the Nature Center.

*To participate in any of the aquatics activities you will need to attend the reunion with a BSA Health Form signed by a physician and complete medical check in and swim test at Camp Three Point.

At noon join us for lunch at Donald North Court. Throughout the afternoon the Yawgoog Heritage Center will be open for your pleasure.  Memorabilia and photo displays, along with sale of historic and collectible patches will make up the Donald North Court activities. Bus service to camps and program areas begins at 1 PM. Don’t forget camp swim meets will be ongoing for your enjoyment.  Test your shooting sports skills at the Rifle and Archery Ranges.  Most importantly, starting at 2 PM you may participate in low COPE activities and team building exercises. You will be asked to sign a release before participating in COPE.

Our annual Alumni Gathering will begin at 3:30 PM at Donald North Court.  You will want to be present and learn of the great 2014 Projects given to our camp by the YAA.  Decade Photos start at 4 PM followed by our famous Chief Yawgoog BBQ.  The Saturday Night Show starts at 8 PM.  It will certainly be a day of fun and enjoyment for those who take full advantage of all the activities.  Don’t miss out!

Membership remains a key emphasis with the YAA and your participation and attendance at Yawgoog Days is important.  Our founder, H. Cushman “Gus” Anthony led and guided us for years.  It is now time for following generations to become actively involved and insure that the YAA continues to be a strong voice in carrying out the work and dedication of our founder.

As we prepare for Yawgoog Days 2014, we all need to keep in mind that during 2015 we will be celebrating 100 years of camping at Yawgoog.  There will be a special Centennial event celebrating this important milestone.  As dates become available, we hope you will be able to arrange your schedule to attend.

Mark your calendar and let’s make our 34th reunion the best ever.  Contact everyone you know who camped at Yawgoog and encourage them to attend.  Reach out to former Yawgoog Staff Members.  We need you to attend.  Mark your calendar for August 2nd and we’ll welcome you at camp.

Since we’ll be in Penticton, British Columbia on August 2, we won’t make the reunion, but wish to say “howdy” to the many YAA friends who will be there.
It’s been 77 years since I rolled up my shorts and hunted for a coil of shoreline at Three Point in 1937. This year I turn 90 in September and still cherish those years at Yawgoog.
