Dear Fellow Alumni,
And so we find ourselves again deep in the sudden sunlight of another spring. We sweep off driveways and drag out lawn furniture and dust off our sunrooms, patios and tune up our lawnmowers, and some of us even get ready for the onslaught of seasonal allergies. So as we prepare ourselves for the warmer weather to come, so too does Yawgoog.
Like us, the Rangers and their assistants are tuning up the massive machine that sees almost ten thousand happy campers, guests, and visitors stroll drive or bike through that happy gate every summer. Unlike us, though, they’ve been at it for far longer. They start the process of sweeping, cutting, felling, fixing, and dragging months before that first Monday of Week One, when Yawgoog Comes Alive. Readying the reservation requires the work of many hands and they are already hard at work making it happen.
As we do every spring, the Yawgoog Alumni Association sponsored a day of service on May 18 in the Donald North Court. A crew of alumni and friends painted almost every piece of wooden trim in the DNC. I am pleased that our Association was able to be a part of maintaining the first and perhaps most central location that many scouts and scouters see during their weeks at Camp.
Our alumni also assisted the Yawgoog Staff during their yearly open house on June 1 and just this past weekend worked hard to sweep, mop, oil, and wax the walls and floors of the Factor’s Club.
I am pleased to announce that the Yawgoog Alumni Association will be funding the installation of a new BBQ Pavilion in the Donald North Court this summer. Construction is ongoing.
We are also purchasing new waterfront elements for each Camp waterfront this summer. Our building projects and our purchase of program equipment is the result of your generosity towards this Association. Your dues and donations represent future investment in Yawgoog, its campers, and its staff. Thank you.
If you’ve not yet paid your dues, then head to the Yawgoog Alumni page to pay your dues and contribute to the project fund now.
Finally, mark your calendars for August 3, 2019, the date of our Annual Alumni Reunion and Yawgoog Days. Once again, alumni from all over the region, nation, and world will convene on the Donald North Court to celebrate this place that means so much to all of us.
I hope this spring finds you and your family in fine spirits and that you have the opportunity to make it to the Annual Reunion on August 3.
Yours in Scouting……..Patrick McDonald, YAA Chair
