After what’s been a very difficult winter in Rhode Island, Spring is finally here and we will again turn our attention to the outdoors. In just a few short weeks the staff will begin the process of bringing Yawgoog to life for its 99th summer camping season.
The Yawgoog Alumni Association Executive Committee has been hard at work preparing to support our beloved camp. Hopefully, you have all received your membership renewal mailing. I ask that if you haven’t yet returned it please dig it out of the pile of mail and consider not only renewing your membership but upgrading your membership in support of YAA’s restricted endowment.
As mentioned in the Fall Belltower this year’s projects include CPR mannequins, replacement rifles and shotguns, additional paddleboards, sails and rowboats. Adding a 2014 projects donation to your membership renewal will certainly help provide upgraded equipment for the coming season.
As you will read later in this issue of the Belltower, our annual reunion will now be called Yawgoog Days 2014. Of course, we will continue to enjoy the tours, camaraderie and the famous Chief Yawgoog BBQ. But for those of you looking to relive your days at camp, we will offer breakfast and lunch with opportunities for swimming, sailing, paddle boarding, canoeing and utilization of the COPE course.
Plans for the recognition of Yawgoog’s 100th season in 2015 are beginning to take shape. We are looking for celebrations throughout the season with a grand finale for all Yawgoog alumni and friends. YAA will be publicizing the events as the plans solidify.
Thank you again for your support of YAA and our efforts to keep Yawgoog a special place for Scouts in the years to come!
Yours in Scouting, Jim . . .
