SAVE THE DATE – “Around the Pond” Hike and Cookout on the Dam

What’s better than camp in the summer with warm weather and peace and quiet?

Mere days before the storm of staffers and campers arrive, we will welcome all Alumni to our Summer event, on June 8th at 4 pm. Take in the beauty of Yawgoog Pond during our “Around the Pond” hike.  Explore camp to see all the new and old buildings and all the changes that come to camp each year. On the Dam, we will enjoy a dinner of burgers and dogs. Take in the glow of a beautiful sunset around 8 pm and stay for a campfire. A fine afternoon and evening of fellowship.

Hike details:

Meet at the 407, Reservation Trading Post at 4 pm for a hike on the Yellow Trail.

Proper hiking attire suggested, hiking boots or sneakers, bug spray, water bottle.

Approximate hiking time is 1 hour, 30 minutes.

There is no charge to attend this event, but donations to the Yawgoog Alumni Project Fund would be greatly appreciated.  Hope to see you on June 8th!

- SAVE THE DATE – “Yawgoog Days 2019”

Guest Speaker – Pete Raho

Pete Raho first camped in Sandy Beach starting in 1991. He later worked on staff during the summers of 1994 through 2000, most often at the Nature Center or as a Program Commissioner. Since leaving Camp, he has worked a number of different careers. He is currently starting a business to teach people how to build their own speakers, amplifiers, and other audio equipment in Brooklyn, New York, where he lives. He received the Fred W. Marvel Award as the top CIT of the summer in 1994. He is also an Eagle Scout and has received the Vigil Honor from what used to be Tankiteke 313, Fairfield County Council. We are all looking forward to the YAA Reunion and special guest speaker, Pete Raho!

Much construction is underway at Yawgoog. (See photos below.) Many thanks to all of our alumni members who continue to give to our Projects Fund.  Special thanks to our anonymous donors who are extremely generous and allow the Council to continue to make marked improvements – new cabins, new bathroom and shower facilities and very soon a beautiful new dining hall.
