Gus’s Gossip #2

A native of East Providence, RI, Ron McLarty is a veteran actor, accomplished playwright, prolific audiobook narrator and acclaimed novelist – and most importantly, he is a YAWGOOG ALUMNUS!

As a matter of fact, Ron is a 1969 graduate from Rhode Island College and on October 1st, RIC held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception for Ron McLarty as he is donating his published and unpublished works to a Ron McLarty Collection that will be house in RIC’s James P. Adams Library.

I hear from Don Fowler who attended the event, that Ron was unable to attend due to illness but that his wife, sons and siblings attended, along with many of his fellow actors, writers and RIC dignitaries to honor him and his many contributions as an actor and novelist.  Don tells me that that Ron McLarty was on the Yawgoog Staff in the mid to late 60’s when Don was Reronservation Director.  Ron honed his talents by directing and starring in the Saturday Night Shows and was one of Yawgoog’s most beloved staff members.

Ron’s passion for writing led him to completing 10 novels, four notably:  The Memory of Running; Art in America; Traveler; The Dropper.  Ron is also noted for his body of work as one of the country’s leading audio book narrators having done over 100 titles including the narration of books authored by Stephen King, David Baldacci, Anne Rich, Richard Russo, Elmore Leonard, Ed McBain and Scott Turow for which he was the recipient of numerous Audie Awards

Certainly we all remember Ron from his many, many television appearances and movies! He appeared on television in ‘Person of Interest’, ‘The Return of Jezebel James’, ‘Law and Order’ (many times), ‘Sex and the City’, ‘Spenser: For Hire’……just to name a few.   Some of his movies include:  St. Vincent, Into the Fire, Little Piece of Heaven, Flamingo Kid, Tiger Town and Father’s Love.

Ron McLarty and Murray Massover, on stage or off, were two of the funniest guys in camp. Always hams at the Saturday night Amphitheater show. It was a privilege to know them and serve with them on the Yawgoog staff in the 60ties and 70ties. Ron, I hope that you are feeling better. All the best, Hoppy.
