This past summer nearly 6,200 Scouts from all over the Northeast selected Yawgoog Scout Reservation for their week of Scout Summer Camp. Thousands of merit badges were earned, hundreds of Scouts learned to swim, the weather was perfect all summer and camp was great. The fishing was good, the mosquitoes were sparse and the campfires glowed into the night long after the last story was told.
Throughout the years, much of Yawgoog has not changed. Scouts still salute as they walk through the archway of the Bucklin Memorial Building honoring one of the many fine traditions that have been handed down through the generations of Scouts, Scouters, and Staff.
This year, because of the generosity of the Alumni Association members, we were able to add new rowboats, CPR instructional mannequins, archery equipment, handicap Scout transportation, upgrades to the Memorial Room, and best of all, equipment for our new Robotics Program at camp.
We are excited for the summer of 2016 when we will continue to celebrate 100 years at Camp Yawgoog. We need your help to do that and hope you will continue to support the Alumni Association by helping to fund all of the worthwhile projects.
I am looking forward to the upcoming season and invite anyone to visit Yawgoog during the summer to see the great things that happen here and most importantly the smiling faces on all of the Scouts as they pass by.
Yours in Scouting, Tom . . .
