What an exciting time this is – Yawgoog is celebrating its 100th Anniversary! I am thrilled to be at Narragansett Council celebrating this Centennial with all of you.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Tim McCandless. I earned the Eagle Scout Rank in Boy Scout Troop 27 in Akron Colorado, a small farm town on the plains of eastern Colorado. I became very active in the Order of the Arrow and served as Lodge Chief of the Kola Lodge #464 and was recognized with the Vigil Honor.
I have spent my entire career working with the Boy Scouts of America having served youth through the Scouting Program in the Longs Peak Council in Colorado, the Milwaukee County Council in Wisconsin and with the Inland Northwest Council in Spokane, Washington, since 2003. I was on staff for and later the director of Ben Delatour Scout Ranch near Red Feather Lakes, Colorado.
My three sons are each Eagle Scouts and long-time camp staff members of Camp Easton on Lake Coeur d’Alene in Idaho. My wife, Peg, and I are thrilled to make Rhode Island our home.
When I first heard of the Scout Executive position opening up at the Narragansett Council, I was extremely excited. The Narragansett Council has a terrific reputation across the country for providing a quality Scouting Program to youth and operating outstanding camps and facilities. Yawgoog’s reputation is known far and wide. I am honored to have been selected as Scout Executive to lead this great Council in partnership with volunteers and professionals to deliver the promise of a great Scouting Program to the youth of the Narragansett Council.
I am looking forward to working with all of you and to meeting you at one – or all – of our events celebrating Yawgoog’s 100th Anniversary on the weekend of July 29th thru 31st. See you soon!
